What happens if the other driver involved in the accident is not insured or has minimal coverage?
If you’re injured by a driver who either is uninsured or has minimal coverage, you’re generally left with two options. The first one is you can sue them individually, however, if they have minimal insurance coverage, chances are they don’t have a lot of assets, and that’s not a route that you’re going to want to go. The other option is, if you have uninsured under-insured motorist coverage on your policy, you can utilize that coverage to pick up where the other person either didn’t have insurance or had insufficient insurance, to compensate you for your injuries.
